P.H.D. (Professional Hockey Development Program)™

Phillips Hockey’s P.H.D. Program is designed to give a player the skills required to become a professional athlete. This 20 Level program in combination with the off-ice development program will give any player who has the desire, the opportunity to pursue a college or possibly even a professional career.

Beginners – Balance and basic skating stride

Level 1 – Skating stride and stopping

Level 2 – Crossunders and turning

Level 3 – Backwards skating and transitions

Level 4 – Backwards crossunders and turning

(Player is tested on their over-all skating ability)

Level 5 – Stationary puck handling and basic skating with the puck

Level 6 – Advanced stopping and starting with the puck

Level 7 – Backwards skating and transitions with the puck

Level 8 – Forwards and backwards turning with the puck

Level 9 – Stationary passing and basic skating and passing

(Player must learn to control the puck before shooting is introduced)

Level 10 – Advanced passing and basic shooting

Level 11 – Stationary shooting techniques

Level 12 – Wrist and backhand shots while skating

Level 13 – Basic snap and slap shots stationary

Level 14 – Snap and slap shots while skating

Level 15 – Flip shots and dekes

(Once a player has developed their skills, competitive play should be introduced)

Level 16 – Offensive and defensive 1-on-1’s

Level 17 – Offensive and defensive 2-on-1’s

Level 18 - Checking and defense

Level 19 – Advanced moves and plays

Level 20 – Overall game play and positioning

(Player’s mastering these skills have a much greater chance of pursuing a professional career or competing at the Division 1 collegiate level)
